The Chancellor has declared war on the Landlords – is a heading in the news.
Hickory Dickory dock
The landlord ran up the clock.
The landlord ran down.
It’s Arse was kicked by Brown.
Now Osborne is the new cuckoo cock.
The new stamp duty imposed in the Autumn Statement punitively attacks the private landlord. They are held as being responsible for fuelling the price increases on property.
Landlords provide a necessary role within this economy. There is a need for the private sector to provide rented homes. We thought Osborne would have known better. This is a dangerous game and an attempt to throttle ambition. You don’t pick on sectors like this.
The saving grace is that for us in the ‘ Northern Powerhouse’ is that most landlords will not feel the bullets as many properties are under the stamp duty radar. It’s impact will be felt though in London and the South.
